Wear it, then Recycle: Designers Create Dissolvable Textiles from Gelatin

Researchers at the ATLAS Institute, University of Colorado Boulder, have developed a DIY machine that produces sustainable textile fibers from gelatin. These fibers, which can dissolve in hot water within an hour, offer a potential solution to the fashion industry's textile waste problem. The machine, costing about $560, allows designers to customize fibers' strength, elasticity, and color using bio-based dyes. This innovation could significantly reduce the 11 million tons of textiles discarded annually in U.S. landfills by promoting recyclable, eco-friendly clothing options.
