Australia's Jason Day received backlash for his daring Masters "fashion statement"

The play at Augusta National wasn't the only thing that sparked discussion online on Thursday.
Australian golfer Jason Day became viral on social media for his opening-round outfit at the 2024 Masters, specifically his slacks, which were compared to "parachute pants," according to the NY Post.
One golf fan joked on X, "The Masters, a tradition unlike any other, Jason Day wearing MC Hammer pants."

"Hey Jason Day, @MCHammer called and wants his pants back," jokingly said another user.
The jokes about Day, who is an ambassador for Malbon, "a lifestyle brand inspired by the game of golf," continued. Malbon created Day's Masters attire.

Trey Wingo tweeted a video of Jason Day moving his pants in the wind with the caption, "I'm legitimately concerned that Jason Day might set sail with those pants in this wind."
"How many real golfers could fit in Jason Day's pants?" he said.
Day sparked more social media discussion when he showed up for Day 2 of the Masters sporting a pullover vest with striking embroidery.

"He looks like a pack of cigarettes," an admirer said on X.
Is this Jason Day outfit being made by someone? Dan "Big Cat" Katz of Barstool Sports commented, "I feel like he's being pranked," on X.

Commenting on the situation, veteran CBS broadcaster Verne Lundquist stated: "Jason seems determined to make a fashion statement." Yesterday I had strange jeans, and today I have a billboard for a shirt.
Thursday night (AEST) saw a late start to the day due to heavy weather in the Augusta, Georgia, area, which caused the times to be delayed by more than two hours.
Tiger Woods and Max Homa started with him later in the afternoon, and they had to finish the first round early on Friday morning local time in order to begin the second.

Day has four over after two rounds, which is plenty to qualify and guarantee that he can flaunt more daring ensembles this weekend.

Day, the champion of the 2015 PGA Championship, tied for second place in the 2011 Masters with fellow Australian Adam Scott, which was his best result.
Australians Cameron Smith (1-under) and Davis (3-under) are still vying for their country's first Masters victory since Scott's victory in 2013.
At 6-under, American players Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler, and Homa share the lead. /BGNES
