‘Fashion & Swagger’ comes to Opera House in New York

On Saturday at 1 p.m., the 1891 Fredonia Opera House will show "John Singer Sargent: Fashion & Swagger," a unique cinematic examination of the renowned artist. The event is a part of the Art & Architecture On Screen Series presented by the Opera House, Observer reported.

Many people consider John Singer Sargent to be the best portrait painter of his time. His ability to control his subjects' attire and public persona was what made his "swagger" photographs so amazing. This documentary project explores how Sargent's distinctive method has impacted modern art, society, and fashion through interviews with curators, contemporary fashionistas, and style influencers.

The exhibition, which was filmed at the Tate Britain in London and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, shows how Sargent was able to convey unique personalities, power relationships, and gender identities during this intriguing time of cultural reinvention. Beautiful clothes and accessories that Sargent's subjects wore are displayed alongside 50 of his paintings, transporting the viewer into the artist's workspace.

Although Sargent's subjects were frequently affluent and dressed expensively, what happens when you give yourself up to a master artist? The creation of public identity is still hotly debated and contentious today as it was in the early 1900s, but Sargent's paintings manage to cut through the social murmur and convey a seductive reality with each brushstroke.

The duration of the production is roughly sixty-five minutes. /BGNES
