FGI and Macy's will recognize exceptional American college student

The annual Rising Star Awards ceremony, organized by Fashion Group International (FGI) with the goal of recognizing emerging talent in the fashion and beauty industries, will take place today, May 13. The Future Fashion Award is a new prize that FGI is presenting at this year's event in honor of college students, reported Fashion United.

The awards recognize up-and-coming talent in a number of categories, including fine jewelry, trendy apparel, and accessories. This year, FGI has added two new award categories: retail tech and creative content, in addition to the Future Fashion Award.

The US department store brand Macy's is the sponsor of the new award. According to a news statement released by the organization, "one stand-out junior or senior year student" who is presently enrolled in a fashion merchandising program at one of the universities in FGI's US higher education network will receive the new reward.

The first Future Fashion Award from FGI will go to the student "whose passion, nuanced analysis, creativity and vision marks them out as a rising star in the field of fashion merchandising," according to the press release. Macy's will provide them $1,000 to aid with the cost of their remaining coursework.

Held on Park Avenue in New York City, the ceremony is a red-carpet industry event that will take the shape of a luncheon from 11 am to 2 pm EDT.

Senior director of assortment at Macy's, Jenna Cordina, responded to the news in a statement, saying: "Macy's is committed to empowering and providing young people with the resources, tools, and mentorship opportunities to excel as they begin their fashion careers through our social purpose platform, Mission Every One."

"I look forward to the amazing ideas, innovations, and change these future leaders will bring to the industry," she said, expressing her excitement at having guided this year's selection process./BGNES
