For a worthy cause, Goodwill of the Finger Lakes offers sustainable styles

On Friday night at the Rochester Museum and Science Center, the Goodwill of the Finger Lakes served sustainable styles for a charitable purpose.

Its yearly Sustainability Under the Stars summer party included designers showcasing clothing that was recycled and found at nearby Goodwill stores, reported WHAM.

According to Jen Lake, president and CEO of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, "fashion contributes to a lot of waste in the world." "If you can buy something secondhand, you're really being part of the solution to help the world, your community, [and] programs that help your neighbors or maybe even your own family."

A number of raffles with a sustainability theme were held in conjunction with the runway, which included designers from the Greater Rochester area.

"Tonight, we have three local designers who shopped our Goodwill stores," stated Lake. As a result, they have pieced them together to create their own unique style. It's not necessary to purchase a brand-new item. It's possible to produce something fashionable and sustainable."

The previous year's event contributed to the community impact projects of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes by raising almost $13,000. Through its activities, the organization affects the lives of almost 184,000 people.
