Following his debut collection for Gucci as creative director, Sabato De Sarno anchors his signature aesthetics further with an autumn/winter collection that blends the stuff of dreams with tailored jackets, sequinned dresses and lacy separates.
In De Sarno’s show notes, he reveals the inspiration behind the collection. “My dreams, as with my fashion, always converse with reality. Because I am not searching for another world to live in, but rather of ways to live in this world,” he says.
He invites the audience to examine the details captured in this collection “before feeling free to back away in pursuit of a broader perspective”. In his words, this latest seasonal collection – from ready-to-wear pieces to the season’s must-have handbags, shoes and accessories – aims to “capture the extraordinary where the ordinary is expected”.
Among the statement pieces in the collection are coats that accentuate not only a tailored silhouette but also the impeccable Italian craftsmanship that is a signature of the house. Modern fibres mixed with wool bring a shift in colour as the structured garment moves when worn.
The main coat’s masculine silhouette is punctuated with hidden buttons on the back, a detail that is seen throughout the collection.
A mix of textures and colours with various fabrics, including velvet and lace, together with intricate embroidery, is found alongside jacquard prints and knits decorated with crystal fringe or off-tone sequins.
A rich colour palette – including the house’s deep burgundy, as well as greens, blues, oranges, yellows and pinks – is used in the ready-to-wear pieces and extends to the various accessories that anchor the season’s looks.
