H&M supports eco-friendly design with a £16,000 student award

The esteemed H&M prize has been given to four Central Saint Martins students in recognition of their dedication to circular fashion. A sum of £16,000 will be divided among the recipients to help them complete their graduating collections and projects, reported The Industry Fashion.

With the goal of "encouraging the next generation of fashion leaders to further engage with sustainability and accelerate the shift to circular fashion," the prize, which H&M also backed in 2021, aims to encourage up-and-coming designers and journalists.

Along with Rok Hwang, the founder and creative director of Rokh and a Central Saint Martin alumni who recently announced the Rokh H&M collaboration, the panel of judges included Ann-Sofie Johansson, head of design at H&M, Sarah Gresty, course leader for the BA Fashion Design course at Central Saint Martins, and Philip Clarke, course leader for the BA Fashion Communication course at Central Saint Martins.

Along with the award, H&M is giving one student an internship in the design department at the company's Stockholm headquarters.

H&M Creative Advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson stated: "The selected designers have a common love of sustainability and fashion, which is precisely what the future requires. Future sustainable fashion will follow creativity, and the chosen students not only excelled in design but also had distinct ideas about how to make clothing long-lasting and robust."

"The decision was made carefully, considering the fusion of a talent and sustainability approach in fashion," said Rok Hwang, founder and creative director of Rokh. The creative minds that honor the resources of our world while simultaneously captivating the eye inspired us"./BGNES
