How the rebranding of fashion label Witchery created a commotion

You're not alone if you've been inundated with information and criticism regarding Australian fashion label Witchery lately and are unsure of what's going on.

It's a hot topic in the fashion industry right now, and most of the feedback seems to be negative. Perhaps this is simply my algorithm showing me this stuff. But this isn't a witch hunt, reported RNZ.

The brand's relaunch has caused controversy for to several reasons, including as the removal of size 20 from their collection and the release of an unimpressive assortment considering the price range. The brand had been teasing and promising a "bold awakening."

The problem is that I only recently learned that Witchery sells in sizes 20, so when I did, I hurried to the closest store to give a blazer a try. It is uncommon for me to find a blazer at a fair price that I can actually try on in-store as someone who loves fashion and has a larger frame.

I practically sprinted, not walked, to the store after seeing online that not only did they offer a more wide variety of bodies in their marketing picture, but other businesses similar to Witchery in the market don't often cater to a bigger size.

This blazer fit me perfectly, and ever since I found out, I've actually been shopping the brand more than before. In a short period of time, I've bought a few pieces in sizes 18 and 20, so I was happy to finally have this option.

I purchased skirts, coats, and well-fitting blazers in materials that I could not typically fit into stores.

A few days later, I discovered that the rebrand was live while I was at one of the stores.

I remember being overjoyed when they informed me that they had a fantastic range launching, with a color palette that I was really into, while I was trying on a satin maxi dress that looked so beautiful on my body and again in a fabric that isn't usually used to accommodate this dress size in store.

You can only imagine how shocked I was to see that the size 20 was no longer available when I checked online the day of the debut.

Witchery did make the "bold" decision to leave that market in 2024, as more customers are speaking out about their need for greater size inclusion.
