IFBEC's Round Table Opens a New Chapter in India's Sustainable Fashion Landscape

With an exclusive Round Table discussion on "India's Sustainable Fashion Business Landscape," the International Fashion Business Exchange Council (IFBEC) set the stage for India to become the global center of the fashion industry. The future of a circular and sustainable textile chain in India was discussed at this momentous event, which brought together the textile commissioner, industry leaders, policymakers, and visionaries. Strategic opportunities that will place India on the global fashion business roadmap were identified. Priorities that are essential for promoting sustainability in the fashion industry were discussed at the Round Table, including changing patterns of consumption, better procedures, and infrastructure investment.
Resource mobilization was also emphasized as an interrelated priority, stressing the necessity of coordinated efforts amongst stakeholders in order to mobilize resources efficiently.
Among the notable guests were: * Vinit Parikh, Co-Founder, IFBEC; * Sunil Patwari, Chairman, TEXPROCIL; * Roop Rashi, Indian Textile Commissioner; and * Mihir Mehta, President, Sasmira
* Dr. Sharmila J. Dua, Director, NIFT Mumbai; * Bodhisatwa Mukherjee, Director, World Trade Center; * Sandeep Bajoria, Vice Chairman, Maharashtra Environment Committee
* Dr. Dhanashri Hardas, Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce; * Jaideep Sajdeh, Texool Ltd.; * Rajkumar Agarwal, MD, SVG Fashions
The significance of coordinating efforts throughout the textile value chain was emphasized by these leaders, especially for the MSME sector, which has a value chain that is widely dispersed. The discussion's general consensus indicated that a "demand pull" mechanism—in which fashion houses and brands put ecology before economy—would be a major force behind sustainable change. This mechanism would encourage the use of sustainability principles in the manufacturing of various fibers along the textile value chain.
Sandeep Bajoria, Chairman of the All India Cotton Seed Crushers Association and Vice Chairman of the Environment & Sustainability Conference:
As promoting ethical fashion is the council's main goal, sustainability is an essential component of every industry value chain. We have achieved great progress in environmental sustainability, one of which is our joint venture with the Maharashtra government on a massive bamboo plantation project that will cover 21 lakh hectares in the state."
