Inmates in the fashion industry

Inmates work in the industrial pavilion of the Lurigancho prison in Lima, Peru.

Clemente Espinosa was imprisoned three years ago in Lurigancho, the most populous prison in Peru. Since then, a sewing machine has been his best ally to pass the time and earn a few soles making clothes that are sold in New York and Madrid under the Pieta label, an ethical fashion brand that encourages reintegration.

The architect of all this is Thomas Jacob, a Frenchman born 34 years ago in the Brittany region, who has been living in Peru for more than a decade.
