Jenna Ortega imitated the famous school uniform style of Lydia Deetz

We knew Jenna Ortega's red carpet looks would be incredible as soon as we learned she was cast as Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz, in the upcoming Beetlejuice. We were correct, too!

The film, which is being directed by Tim Burton, who also serves as the director of Ortega's Wednesday Netflix series, seems to be every bit as bizarre, spooky, and entertaining as its '80s forerunner. The singer and her longtime stylist Enrique Melendez are going all out for the press tour before it opens in theaters on September 6 in the United States. that is, dressing like one of the most well-known characters from the film! On August 19, Ortega appeared in public with an exact replica of one of Ryder's original ensembles, a blazer and plaid skirt paired with a sly Handbook for the Recently Deceased purse.

Over the past few years, "method" dressing—that is, matching your press and red carpet attire to the movie's theme—has become very popular among our favorite celebrities. Examples of this include Zendaya's futuristic Dune 2 ensemble and Margot Robbie's award-winning run of Barbie-inspired looks, which she later completely changed to sporty chic for Challengers. With a lot of black stripes and rich jewel tones, Ortega appears to be fully embracing the gothic glam of the Beetlejuice universe thus far.
