Lectra Observatory offers suggestions for enhancing fashion sustainability

The lifespan of clothes decreased by a third between 2000 and 2014, despite a doubling in global garment manufacturing, according to Lectra Observatory's white paper, "Sustainable Fashion: What Strategies and Technologies?" With 10% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions allegedly coming from the fashion business, this industrial boom has greatly increased pollution, reported Just Style.

The report recommended that the fashion sector concentrate on waste reduction, material traceability enhancement, and product marketing optimization while minimizing unsold inventory to tackle social, environmental, and economic concerns.

The text underscored the significance of technology in this shift, pointing out that innovations in technology may improve the accessibility of information, minimize waste, maximize resources, guarantee product traceability, and better satisfy customer demands.

In order to encourage more conscientious behavior, the research recommended reevaluating industry jargon, enacting new legislation, educating consumers, and making investments to support circular economy and industrial recycling programs.

"There are some significant upheavals in the fashion industry. According to Maria Modroño, chief marketing and communications officer of Lectra, "brands are subject to numerous and complex environmental regulations, particularly regarding traceability." Consumers are becoming more interested about purchasing ethical and sustainable products. "With this white paper, we wanted to give an overview of the main issues that the fashion industry is currently facing, understand the business approaches that brands are using to deal with these issues, and find technological solutions that can balance growth, sustainability, responsibility, and profitability."

The paper states that the objective is quite clear: to create a future where the textile sector can grow without endangering the resources of the earth or the well-being of its workforce.

Lectra has revealed a strategic alliance with Singapore-based AI startup Six Atomic to use AI to revolutionize product development and design in the fashion sector.
