Natalie Portman Is Prepared for War in Her Gladiator Princess Costume

Natalie Portman's newest ensemble would look stunning on the red carpet, on a classy night out, or during a medieval feud. Portman narrowly defeated the traditional black dress over the course of the French weekend to win the 2024 Talent Award at the Deauville American Film Festival. Maybe she's prepared to go into combat beside Chappell Roan?

Portman wore a chainmail ensemble from Maria Grazia Chiuri's resort 2025 collection for Dior that gave her a gladiator-like appearance. Rather than the typical rough armor elements, Portman's outfit had beautiful embroidery along the bodice and dramatic puff sleeves. The actress added some more edge to her dress by tightening it with a stylish belt. Additionally, Portman's black underwear was just barely visible through her dress. The actress accessorized with dramatic black eyeliner, pin-straight hair, and a collar necklace with pearl detailing, reported Wmagazine.com.

It seems sense that Portman, who is a true Dior girl, would be drawn to this particular collection, which was inspired by Scottish tartans and plaids, Mary, Queen of Scots, and medieval tapestries. Naturally, Portman has always combined dramatic edge with unabashedly exquisite details, so this metal stunner is just up her alley. Roan led the way in military-inspired attire at this week's MTV Video Music Awards, suggesting that medieval-inspired clothing is also having a resurgence.

Earlier in the day, Portman catered to the opposite end of her own style spectrum by donning a two-piece outfit that was less "Gladiator Princess" and more "French Girl." She wore a matching Dior bar jacket with a blue pleated skirt. The actress accessorized her midday ensemble with a casual hair and makeup style and iconic Dior sling backs.

It turns out that since its June launch, Portman has become fond of Dior's grunge resort 2025 line. Portman paid homage to her Black Swan character at the launch of her most recent endeavor, Lady in the Lake, by donning a structured minidress and black hot pants made of the same chainmail fabric as her most recent ensemble.

Even though Portman has a lot on her plate, including red carpet appearances, her black Dior gowns are more than capable of a fashion showdown.
