On American Idol, Katy Perry has a serious wardrobe malfunction

When Katy Perry's top broke and she had to hide behind a pillow, her appearance on American Idol on Monday was a ratings gold mine.

The "Roar" hitmaker shone in a metal top that had straps over her back to hold it together, reported HELLO!

Following Roman Collins' rendition of "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," Katy dropped another bombshell that sent the audience into disbelief.

She tried so hard not to let her top fall off that she grabbed onto it.

Katy exclaimed, "That song broke my top off." "I guess it is a woman's world!"

Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, two of her other judges, said, "Here we come ratings," not knowing how to assist her. Katy countered, saying, "It's a family show," before ducking under a cushion and lowering herself behind the panel of judges.

Joking about the situation, Katy posted it to Instagram with the remark, "My top broke #idol."Just a few hours prior, she had taken a seductive picture for social media to showcase her keen sense of style.

"If you see a shark you’re left brained, if you see #idol tonight you’re my bestie," she stated in a tweet.

"I'm glad I could bend that frying pan with my bare hands for you, baby," said her partner Orlando Bloom. "@orlandobloom wow good one and I didn't even write it this time," Katy said.

Her latest fashion statements have been making waves, and Sunday night on the singing program was no exception.

Huge pompoms graced Katy's Bottega Veneta paper mesh gown, which made her appear amazing.

Even though Katy looked stunning in the expensive dress, she couldn't help but draw attention to how much the outfit looked like a car wash.

She posted several pictures of herself on Instagram, along with one where she was superimposed as a huge spinning brush.

Her pictures won over many admirers, who said, "The last photo is why we love you," and included laughing and sobbing emojis. One particular fan favorite was the creation of the vehicle wash.

Katy has dabbled in everything from PVC to metal, never afraid to try anything new in the spirit of style.

But she claims that the clothes she wears on a daily basis are considerably different from her theatrical wardrobe.

She told InStyle, "I believe that I am two different people." It's really larger-than-life in my show. It appears highly three-dimensional. It has a lot of animation. In my daily work and other business endeavors, I'm a little more streamlined and impartial. An occasional splash of color, for example. But we just use one hue, so that's all we do. And my face is a neutral shade of brown"./BGNES
