Potato Waste to Yarn: Fibe's Sustainable Fashion Revolution

Fibe, a London-based material science company, has developed the world’s first textile fibre made from potato harvest waste. By using the leftover stems and leaves from potato crops, Fibe aims to create a scalable, sustainable alternative to conventional fibres like cotton and polyester. Their technology promises significant environmental benefits, including 99.7% less water usage and 82% fewer carbon emissions compared to cotton. With £1M in pre-seed funding, Fibe plans to scale up its production process and commercialize the fibre, which could replace up to 70% of the world’s natural fibre demand. The company has also achieved a major milestone by creating the first yarn from this potato-based fibre, validating its suitability for mass production in the fashion industry.
