Rainbow Wool: Crafting Equality with Wool from Gay Sheep

A sheep farm in Germany has launched a unique fashion initiative, Rainbow Wool, using the wool of gay rams to promote LGBTQIA+ acceptance and equality. Spearheaded by Tokio Hotel singer Bill Kaulitz, the campaign highlights the fact that homosexuality remains a crime in 62 countries. Rainbow Wool raises funds for awareness campaigns and supports the fight for equality.

The wool comes from shepherd Michael Stücke’s farm, where over 20 gay sheep live full lives, producing high-quality yarn. While gay rams are often considered "valueless" in industrial farming, at Rainbow Wool Farm, they are celebrated. Kaulitz has co-designed the collection, which includes statement fashion pieces like shoelaces and patches, alongside German designers Danny Reinke and Kilian Kerner.
