Spring-Summer 2025: 5 Key Trends from New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week's Spring-Summer 2025, held from September 6-11, featured 87 runway shows and numerous off-calendar events. The trends showcased will influence fashion well into next year, despite the event’s “diminished status” as noted by the Partnership for New York City. Brands are responding to weakening consumer interest with more wearable, though still high-priced, collections. The runway reached a broader audience through social media, live-streams, and AI-powered shopping tools.

Key trends included see-through, floor-length hemlines, oversized silhouettes, and denim. Designers like Brandon Maxwell and Sergio Hudson embraced casual American style, while Christian Siriano and Jason Wu played with dramatic, transparent gowns. Labels such as Tibi and Luar leaned into oversized coats and capes. Denim dominated with head-to-toe looks from Rachel Comey, Zero + Maria Cornejo, and Libertine.

A retro feminine vibe also emerged, with satin and lace ensembles from brands like Michael Kors and Sandy Liang. Notable shows included Tommy Hilfiger’s preppy collection and Willy Chavarria’s political statement show "América." Some brands, like Alaïa and Off-White, even opted to show in New York over Paris.
