Sustainable Fashion Week in Wimbledon is back

For its third year, Wimbledon Sustainable Fashion Week is back, promoting women's empowerment, sustainability, and the community.

The Wimbledon Quarter will host catwalks, seminars, showrooms, and a fashion design competition this weekend as part of the Fashion Week, which runs until September 22, Swlononer reported.

The purpose of the event is to encourage the locals to make wise decisions and dress in line with their values. It emphasizes that being sustainable can include upcycling used clothing, repurposing vintage items, or utilizing eco-friendly materials.

The fashion exhibition debuted on September 18 and features free family-friendly events in addition to a sold-out clothes swap.

"It is really to make sure that everybody has a chance to see sustainability in such a light that it doesn't have to be boring, dull," creative director Sophia Lorimer said.

"It can be incredibly thrilling and enjoyable, and it also beautifully captures the essence of the entire community."

30 showrooms of environmentally friendly local companies will be open during the weekend, along with catwalks featuring six distinct female designers that have been hand-selected by Lorimer, who is also the creator of the sustainable style company Fine-Tuned Wardrobe.

"The majority of the women in the showrooms or on the catwalk are women who started this from their kitchen tables with baby in tow," Lorimer continued.
