Sustainable Threads: From Farm to Fashion

The LYCRA Company is partnering with Qore®, a joint venture between Cargill and HELM, to produce bio-derived LYCRA® fiber using QIRA®, a renewable resource made from dent corn. Traditionally, LYCRA® fiber relies on fossil-based BDO (1,4-butanediol), but this shift to bio-derived materials aims to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by up to 44%. This initiative aligns with LYCRA’s strategy to decarbonize and meet consumer demand for more sustainable textiles. The bio-derived LYCRA® fiber will be commercially available by the first half of 2025, with test products already accessible.
