The End of Size Inclusivity? Paris Fashion House Voices Concerns

At the Ester Manas Spring-Summer 2025 show during Paris Fashion Week, the brand reaffirmed its commitment to size inclusivity, showcasing a collection of finely crafted tulle, lingerie, and embossed leather on diverse bodies. The label, launched in 2019 by Ester Manas and Balthazar Delepierre, has been celebrated for using couture techniques that eliminate traditional sizing and cater to XS to 3XL. However, the designers expressed concerns backstage about declining support for body diversity in fashion. They noticed increasing fatphobia and dwindling casting opportunities for size-inclusive models, especially as the popularity of weight loss drugs like Ozempic has driven a resurgence of the "skinny ideal" in the industry.

Despite the critical acclaim and popularity among artists like SZA and Jorja Smith, the designers have encountered difficulties in the wholesale market and see size inclusivity being treated as a passing trend rather than a long-term cultural shift. As brands like Ester Manas work to maintain visibility and inclusivity, they remain committed to empowering women of all sizes and fighting against the return to fashion's traditional, narrow beauty standards.
