Vestiaire introduces Mara Hoffman's archive sale

Hoffman, the recipient of the 2023 CFDA Environmental Sustainability Award, closed her New York store and put her namesake business on hold in May, 24 years after it was first launched. The designer claimed at the time that producing sustainable apparel had grown too difficult and that "anyone in this industry, specifically within the sustainability movement," was aware of the issues, reported Fashion Dive.

Hoffman stated in the release that this archive sale offers a "seamless way to bring continued life and longevity to the Mara Hoffman brand."

"We saw this partnership as a chance to celebrate and support each other, as our companies' ethics and commitments have always aligned," Hoffman stated. "I am thrilled to keep these classic pieces in production and to make the brand more accessible to a wider consumer base."

Swimsuits, blouses, skirts, and the designer's well-known Sloan popcorn dress are among the items available through Vestiaire in sizes XXS to 3XL. Some of the most sought-after items, such as an embroidered Luisa dress, were already sold out on the resale website by the time this article was published.

"We've long appreciated Mara's work for her originality and commitment to conscious fashion," Vestiaire's U.S. CEO, Samina Virk, wrote in an email. "We hope that our community rediscovers her beautiful brand and finds pieces they may have missed the first time around."

This year, Vestiaire has been attempting to broaden its audience as well as its collection.

The company strengthened its relationship with luxury web retailer Mytheresa the following month, enabling consumers in the U.S. and Europe to obtain store credit for reselling their old designer items. In April, the company relaunched its vintage category.
