Wear what you wish to wear for "Second Hand September"

The initiative "Second Hand September," which promotes the purchase of secondhand apparel and addresses the environmental damage caused by the fashion industry, has the backing of Knowsley Council.

Oxfam launched the campaign, which encourages individuals to shop secondhand or host a clothes swap in September at their place of employment, home, or community to protest rapid fashion and dress for a more equitable society, reported Knowsley News.

Why September's Second Hand?

One of the sectors of the global economy that pollutes the most is fashion.

Mass pollution is produced during the manufacture and delivery of clothing since valuable resources like water are used during the process. Millions of garments end up in landfills each year due to the throwaway mentality that fast fashion, in particular, has produced.

Engage in Second-Hand September

Buying used goods has several advantages that are beneficial to the environment and your wallet. Here are some pointers and advice to get you started:

Organize a clothing exchange with your loved ones. One of the greenest methods to save the environment, cut waste, and update your wardrobe without breaking the bank is to swap!

Have a strong concept of your personal style before you go shopping to avoid being overwhelmed by the variety of alternatives or choosing things at random. Consider if you truly adore the item before purchasing it rather than just buying it because it's inexpensive. Do you think this piece will go with everything in my wardrobe? Can I picture it wearing different clothes?

It's also a fantastic reason to do a much-needed closet purge. Additionally, you can free up wardrobe space by donating your old stuff while you buy at a pre-owned clothing store.

Online retailers provide hundreds of gently worn items that are just waiting for a new home.

Go through your own closet again and rediscover the things you already own.
Make the time to maintain the greatest possible fit and quality of your clothing. Dry cleaning your garments is beneficial not only for the environment but also for your clothing! Refresh your sewing knowledge to handle any small repairs.

"By recirculating our clothes – buying second hand or holding 'clothes swaps' with friends, colleagues or in the community – we will buy less and help to reduce the damage to our planet," said Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley's Cabinet Member for Communities & Neighbourhoods.

"I'll be participating in Second Hand September by organizing a wardrobe purge and giving away some of my gently used clothing to charitable organizations. Keep in mind that the clothes you already own is the most environmentally friendly!
