Encouraging Clothing Reuse and Waste Reduction

Gloucestershire Recycles has introduced the "Wear Not Waste" campaign to address environmental concerns related to textile waste by promoting the reuse of clothing. This initiative, a collaboration between Gloucestershire County Council and the county's six district councils, provides residents with a clothes swap kit, which includes rails, hangers, signs, and mirrors to facilitate easy pop-up clothing swaps, as reported by BBC.

The campaign also features an educational component with an information pack for teachers to raise awareness among young people about the impacts of fast fashion. In addition, there is a competition offering two £50 charity shop gift cards to encourage community participation.

Councillor David Gray emphasized the dual benefits of saving money and reducing climate impact through this initiative. The campaign aligns with a broader trend highlighted by a recent study from Thred Up, which predicts that sales of pre-loved clothes will surpass fast fashion by 2030.
