Hugo Boss returns production to Europe due to "geopolitical tensions"

The head of fashion group Hugo Boss Daniel Grider wants to bring production back from Asia to Europe, reports German publication Welt.

"Our strategy is: what sells in America must be produced in America. What sells in Europe should be made in Europe. Sending goods from one continent to another is no longer appropriate," he told Welt. The reason is "geopolitical tensions".

Grider seeks to reduce dependence in supply and production, even if it means raising costs.

"The expansion of production in Europe and America is mainly being done through suppliers," he adds.

Hugo Boss is open to acquiring another brand, points out Grider.

"It could be anything within our financial reach: fashion, footwear, accessories," he points out.

Grider is also considering creating new brands - for example, with celebrities. "New brands can also emerge internally through collaboration.

"In the future we will work with David Beckham. Why shouldn't such a partnership become its own brand?" points out Grider.
