Is quick design the new quick fashion?

In recent years, fast fashion has gained attention as more people try to steer clear of purchasing inexpensive, mass-produced apparel, reported Euronews.

Another market that harms the environment is now developing.

The term "fast deco," coined in a recent research, describes inexpensive furniture and home accents made in large quantities.

Similar to apparel, they are flimsy replicas of expensive fashion trends that are swiftly supplanted by the newest fad.

The increasing environmental impact of fast deco has been highlighted in a recent report by French environmental NGOs.

The ecological problem is compared to that of fast fashion, according to Zero Waste France, Les Amis de la Terre, and the Réseau National des Ressourceries et Recycleries.

According to the writers, fast fashion and fast deco operate on the same principles of mass production of inexpensive goods and quick collection refreshes.

Commercial holidays like Mother's Day and Valentine's Day are utilized to promote sales and introduce new collections.

Similar to the fashion industry, they leverage social media by promoting "unboxing" and "haul" videos.

Retail brands like Zara Home, H&M, and Shein take advantage of this business model.

Pauline Debrabandere, campaign coordinator for Zero Waste France, states that "obviously, the giants of fast fashion, e-commerce, and mass distribution, but also the emerging players in clearance and e-commerce, have done everything to strengthen this trend in order to make the most profit, with disastrous consequences for the planet". | BGNES
